Inseparable - A Digital Drama Resource
Over the past three years, genocide education charity, Beyond Srebrenica, and schools drama company, Collingwood Learning, have toured ‘Inseparable: Lessons from a Nation Divided’. This play and interactive workshop, targeting S4-S6 pupils, tells the story of three friends from different backgrounds who are divided by a growing intolerance of their respective cultures, with devastating results. It is based on stories of survivors of the Bosnian genocide but set in modern-day Scotland.
The event challenges the students to examine their own attitudes to hate speech and also takes them through the Ten Stages of Genocide. It has been seen by nearly 10,000 pupils across Scotland and teachers have fed back on how well received and impactful the performances were.
In order to widen the reach of the project, we have now created a digital resource which includes a recording of the play as well as an interactive version of the workshop which would follow it in a schools setting. This is currently being piloted across the Highlands and Islands.
We would like to introduce this in a 1 hour virtual session during the Stronger Communities week to both show an example of our work in schools and promote potential take-up in education and youth groups. It will be presented by Julie Adair, Vice Chair of Beyond Srebrenica.
